My thoughts: After a trip back to my hometown - Kuala Lumpur

I was a Santa Claus! I have 4 nieces and 1 nephew who are all below 12 years old… Wow, I really can’t imagine myself having kids one day… Normally I tried to avoid buying clothes or shoes as I really didn’t know what sizes were suitable for them. However, this time round, I wanted to take the challenge… I bought T-shirts for them! Overall, the result was quite satisfied! Never try, never know…

Knowing that I’m an avid Toastmaster, my dad asked me about my speaking journey. “Did you speak recently?” “Did you win any trophy recently?” “How’s the membership in your club?” “When do you think you can speak in Malaysia?” “How’s the audience’s response when you spoke?” Wow… I couldn’t handle all the questions. Nevertheless, I tried to answer his questions one by one.

I recalled something during that “Q&A” session. When I was young, I used to have passion in playing badminton. My dad sent me to take lessons every week and I did pretty well for the start. Eventually, I didn’t proceed to a higher level. While I was studying in high school, I loved playing trumpet. My dad was not rich, and yet he bought a professional trumpet for me. I played the trumpet everyday…. But then, again, I didn’t proceed to the next level.

Different ambitions appeared in different stages of my life, and this time round, it’s a totally unexpected one. I had never expected myself putting my heart into public speaking… I think this time round, indeed, I’m very serious one.
It sounds like a love story, doesn’t it? The first one was a puppy love. The second one was so-called a true love. And the last one, it will be a serious love - A love that will follow me for my entire life.

I have discovered that my thinking has become more mature since I threw my heart into Toastmasters Movement. Perhaps, the majority people I met there were mature and successful people; it somehow tuned my thinking to be aligned with them. There was one saying, I can’t really recall what the exact sentence is, but the meaning is something like this, you will become someone who you are close with or your thinking will be influenced by someone who you get along with often.

I understand that whatever path I choose, my dad will support me wholeheartedly. Of course, the ultimate mission in my life is to make my dad being proud of me!
