Human loves to laugh. Some people are born to have a funny look. Some people are born to have a sense of humour. Some people are trained to be humorous. Some people are just trying too hard to be humorous. Whoever you are, I am pretty sure that you love to laugh, don’t you? Laughing is a good medicine to release our stress.
A lot of people think that working in a corporate environment, we have to be serious all the time. This is kind of old-fashioned thinking. During working, we have to treat work seriously. Yes, I totally agree with it. However, injecting humour into our daily conversation with colleagues is indeed necessary. Do you like to talk to a boss who always has a serious look? No, I don’t. Do you feel more comfortable while talking to a humorous boss? Yes, I do.
Benefits of creating a humorous working environment:
1) To create better bonding among colleagues
- People tend to work more closely with each other if they find that it’s fun working with each other.
2) To reduce stress level
- Most of the time, stress is because self-imposed negative emotion. With a joyful emotion, the stress level will reduce subliminally.
3) To stay motivated all the time
- People will become more motivated while doing something that they like to do. Try to jog, if you don’t like jogging. Do you feel motivated? Try to sing, if you like singing. You feel more motivated, don’t you?
4) To resolve conflicts among colleagues
- Conflict will somehow occur among colleagues even though we try very hard to avoid it. However, the important thing is not how to avoid conflict, but how to resolve conflict. Injecting humour into conversation will help to bring down the degree of the conflict.
5) To increase productivity
- A lot of musicians love going to work, because this is their hobby. They have joy while playing music. Making a workplace as a joyful place, workers will love going to work and automatically, the productivity will increase.
Here is an example of how I injected humour into an email to my colleagues. A group of ladies were planning to organize a farewell party to our vendors – 3 guys, who will be leaving the company soon. I was the only guy in my company invited to the party.
Here is my reply:
Thanks for inviting me and I’m really glad to join you all!
So many charming ladies are going to farewell for them, surely, they will be very touched.
Should I organize a special event for them after the farewell party which is only for GUYS?
Regards,
Kia

it’s completely different thing†– Christina Applegate
I heard some laughing in the office after they read the email. It created such a joyful environment while laugh was floating around the office.
