“Some people dream of great accomplishments, while others stay awake and do them.†– Constance Newman
I was reading my newly bought magazine “Entrepreneur†in the train today while going to my office. There was one page about great entrepreneur’s favourite quotations. The quotation by Constance Newman caught my attention and somehow created resonance to me.
That day I brought one of my good friends to attend my club speech contest. I remembered he told me that he wanted to switch his job from a technical engineer to a sales engineer. I personally felt that his communication skills is no good, so I thought it would be a great idea for him to join a Toastmasters Club. I thought through this session, he would be inspired and felt motivated to join. However, it seemed like there is something that resisted him to join. What was that resistant? I didn’t ask….
There was another incident, which happened to me quite often. A group of my friends, most of them are technical person, always complaint about their job during gathering. They know that I’ve changed my job from a technical person to a sales person. Then most of them said, not everybody can be a sales person. I totally don’t agree with that. I only believe that if you want to be someone, there must be a way. If you don’t have the skills, go to hone your skills now…
I had a chat with a Toastmaster who is 33 years old now. He was a technical engineer for 6 years. Now, he is studying MBA. He shared his experience with me. He was saying that being a technical person and especially in those specialized field in production, you will be ended up doing the same old things forever. I totally agree with what he’s said and that’s the reason why I wanted to change my field…. I want to be an entrepreneur… And that’s the reason why he’s changed his field and taking MBA in finance and economics now. He said it would be great if he realized this at his age of 26… I think it’s always never too late to realize something and start making a change with actions immediately…
I would like to clarify one thing that I’m not criticizing that being a technical person has no prospect. NO, NO, NO… Being a technical person with passion in your job, you can still have a wonderful career path. The bottom line is, if you are a technical person now and you are complaining that you don’t like to be a technical person, stop complaining and find something that you like to do. I hate people who are complaining the same old thing again and again and again and again and again… It’s kind of irritating!
