Yesterday was the Area Z2 Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest; it was quite an eventful contest. First, there was an argument that whether one of the humorous speech contestants should be disqualified because he just arrived the contest room at around 30 seconds before his turn to speak. And then, during the evaluation contest, there were 3 out of 4 contestants disqualified due to speaking over time. It’s my business, for the first occasion, because it will decide whether I have a chance to represent Area Z2 to go for Division Z contest. It’s none of my business, you may say, because my responsibility on that day was just to put on a good show and the results would be taken care by the chief judge and the contest chair.
You must be wondering what the result for the contest was. Be patient… Let me share with you my happiness during the contest.
My Happiness #1
I’m very satisfied with my performance yesterday. There were more than 30 laughter points in my speech!
My Happiness #2
A lot of audience came to me during break time and told me that they enjoyed my speech very much.
My Happiness #3
Someone commented that I had very good body language.
My Happiness #4
Vernice, brought her boy friend and Cherlyn to support me. Lee brought my ex-colleauge – Sheng Hui to support me.
My Happiness #5
Some of the audience attended my club contest which was held last month in my club, and they commented that I have tremendous improvement compared to my first presentation in my club contest.
My Happiness #6
I think I’m trained to be faster thinking nowadays. I managed to add in two laughter points in my speech by relating to the topics presented by the first two speakers.

My spoken English is improved compared with last time. Still not good enough though… But there is improvement! And I promise you that I will improve some more…

I may have a chance to represent Area Z2 to go for Division Z contest which will be held in the end of October.

I have once again proved that VISUALIZATION really works for preparing my speech effectively.

I got a trophy again! It’s a 1st runner-up trophy though. Taking part in the contest, it’s not only about winning the contest; it’s about the improvement that you’ve made. I think I’m again being trained to be a better speaker… Thank you for those who have contributed your encouragement, effort and time in one way or another. (Adrien, Bernard, Kin Fung, Ban Peng, Suchi, Ruchi, Jit Hwee, Wei Khoon, Lee, VJ Kumar, Pei Yee, Cynthia…. Just to name a few)
It’s truly a great experience to take part in a contest SERIOUSLY. Why do I stress on the word SERIOUSLY? What I mean is, to treat a contest seriously; you will therefore prepare your speech seriously and eventually improve tremendously….
If you ask me whether I feel disappointed with the outcome of the results, I have to admit that I’m a little bit disappointed. Anyway, this is contest, judges are human, different judges have different preference. So, the most important thing is not the trophy, it’s the IMPROVEMENT!
Then, you may ask me whether I wish to represent Area Z2 for the division contest? My answer is OF COURSE! It’s a different level of contest and the furthest I went to was only Area Contest. I really really want to experience the feeling in speaking in a division contest. I’m sure that I will gain a lot of experience, improvement…
You must be looking forward to seeing my video recording for my yesterday speech contest… Hehe… Sorry, I can’t show you now. But, I promise I will show you when it’s the right time. To tell you a secret, I watched the clip yesterday for more than 10 times and I was very very happy!!
I plan to compile a FIELD REPORT for my Humorous Speech Contest journey. I have collected my own recordings (5 audio recording and 2 video recording). Stay Tune!
p/s: The quality of the video recording is not so good because I use my digital camera to do the recording. I plan to buy a video camera but it’s expensive… DO YOU WANT TO SPONSOR ME A VIDEO CAMERA?? I’m serious… Let me know at yowkia@iamkia.com Thanks!

I understand how you felt in university as I have been through the same thing too.Many times, the answer of the question, the suggestion of the problem have all been swallowed back to the throat.It does change our personality too!!Well, congratulation, you made it!!Happy for you

STELLA!!! Great to see your message here. I still remember the time we spent together in the band.. the effort that we’d put in to the band… Well, sad to say that I have not played my trumpet for quite some time… Anyway, the experience that I got in the band, really help me in being a better person…. I believe you have the same kind of feeling too, don’t you?
