Project no.1: The Ice Breaker

Objectives:
i) To begin speaking before an audience
ii) To discover speaking skills you already have and skills that need some attention.

Project title: My dreams

Back to year 1981, 22nd of February, 11am, an 11 pound baby was born in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. That baby was named Eng Yow Kia. Yup, that’s me. It’s a very easy remember Date of Birth, Triple two. It’s a very simple name, Kia.

Different dreams came across to my mind in different stages of my life. When I was in primary school, I loved playing badminton. Remember in year 1992, Malaysia won back Thomas Cup. Every national player became Millionaire after government giving rewards to them. I was a school badminton player at that time, but had not won any single match outside the school. At primary six, I had a dream. I wanted to be a National player. I was struggling before a few months of my primary school graduation. Should I choose a badminton school? Or should I choose a normal school. At last, I chose a normal school.

During sec-two, I joined symphonic band. Undying passion to trumpet - that was the passion I had when I was in secondary five. Vincent bach-professional series trumpet - that was a present given by my dad. I practiced very hard during that time. I was totally engrossed to the melody that I played. Now, come to nearly the end of my high school journey. Should I choose a music school? Or should I choose an engineering school. At that time, I had strong interest in engineering field too. At last, I chose Nanyang Technological University for my Mechatronics degree.

I had made up my mind in university. Most of the time, I was studying in my room. I wanted to get good results; I wanted to be a successful engineer.

Now, I have been working as an application engineer in an engineering firm for 1 year n 3 months. I got to know a lot of things like machines, process and quality inspections. Working for turnkey projects, customers are the kings. Working late night, working on public holidays is a norm to me. I just don’t care. I am a bachelor, I have no family in Singapore, and I can do whatever I want. I want to gain as much experience as I can within a short period of time. I always evaluate myself like what I have learned and what I wish to learn. I like to see failures, as failures will make me grow tougher. Working in this field, I get to know people from various countries, people who owns a company, people who owns 13 sports car…… Now, I have a dream. I want to be an entrepreneur, I want to be rich. I don’t believe in practice makes perfect, but smart practice makes perfect.

Future life is always unpredictable. There was one fortune teller told me that I have a very BIG nose. This kind of nose indicates that I will be a rich person. I’ve met a guy who had a big nose too. He warned me to beware of my nose; this kind of nose will make me get into trouble with girl relationship. I wish the fortune teller’s theory is true. I really wish to know the formula for growing my money. I’m working hard in finding the solution. Please, if you know do tell me.
